Introduction

This is actually the read me of the stand alone Ariena, but she is part of the bigger mod I'm working on: The Mod for the Wicked. This mod was made, for one part, to increase roleplay. I am against any evil act in real life and none of the things presented in the Kido mod, Ariena mod or the entire Mod for the Wicked should in any way be copied in to deeds preformed in real life!

Version 2.2 aims to delete the bugs that were reported of version 1.0 (including the nasty walking away bug) and extends heavily on her aasimar past, along side other new content, which includes ToB.

Though Ariena has been bug-tested already for quite a bit, she might still contain bugs. I should put more times in to tests, but I'm quite impatient. So that is why it is already out. Please report any bugs to his forum called The Mod for the Wicked at Spellhold Studios (which is the bigger mod he is part of)

Ariena requires ToB to work.

Compatibility notes

There is a specific install order, even though Ariena version 2.0 no longer requires the Kido NPC to work. If you want Ariena installed together with Kido, it is required that you first install Kido, then secondly Ariena.
As far as known there are no compatibility problems.

Installation

Windows

Ariena, is packed as a rar file. The files can be extracted from the archive using WinRar. If properly extracted (that is extracted into your Bg2 folder), you should have a Ariena folder, and Setup-Ariena.exe in your BG2 folder. To install, simply double-click Setup-Ariena.exe and follow the instructions on screen.

Please re-run Setup-Ariena.exe in your BG2 folder to reinstall, uninstall or otherwise change components.

Components

List of currently available components (though it is not really worth mentioning):

Ariena, The Pitfighter

The main component and of course necessary to install. Installs Ariena with all his agressiveness and bashing power!

Ariena's portraits

There are three portraits set you can choose from. The default portrait is created by Immortality/Khayman/Deathsangel/Celestine, a brighter version of the default portait by Celestine, and the alternative by HERD.
My tip is to take a look at the portraits first before installing them. You can view them by going to the Ariena folder and then look in the portraits folder.

Grand Mastery Fix

The files Wspatck.2da and Wspecial.2da fix the Grand Mastery problem with Baldur's Gate 2. When a character uses five proficiency slots in a weapon (the true thing that seperates fighter fromt the other warrior-classes or multi-classers) moving from four to five reduced in the pen and paper version the THAC0 with that weapon by one, increase attacks per round from 3/2 to 5/2, and increase damage by 1.
In the game this doesn't happen, it only increases the damage by one, so isn't that "Grand" and is rather a waste of a proficiency point. This is changed with this fix, making fighters once again the true weapon masters.
This fix is also presented in other mods, but for the convience of Ariena it is added to this mod again ;) Over-writing the other fix should not cause any problems.
Grand Mastery was correctly implemented in Baldur's Gate 1 and Icewind Dale, but was changed in Baldur's Gate 2 for "game balance", which I think actually gets upset by it. To use this fix you have to restart BG2 (if it's already running.)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where can I find Ariena?
A: In the Docks district, near Cromwell.

Q: Hey, it takes forever for her quest to start what gives?
A: You need to win her trust, before she is going to admit to you of... well you know. ;) Not too many spoilers in here.

Q: Hey, last time I played around I got her quest, but this time I couldn't get the right answer. Why?
A: Though I stay very true to the original game I did add a lot of stat checks. To make sure Ariena's personal quest start you must either a high enough intelligence; failing that, some NPC's can help to fill the gap of your knowledge. If you have neither the Intelligence or one of the NPC's Ariena's personal quest will not start.

Q: Wha! Ariena is talking all weird and stuff. What must I do or is that part of the game?
A: If she is saying all strange lines that are obviously not hers, then you strings got mixed up. Hover over Ariena with the pointer and hit the T key. After a few seconds you should have control again and she should be her usual agressive self again.

Q: Ariena sometimes seems unsure of herself and sometimes tend to chaotic ways. Is this on purpose?
A: Yes, Ariena can shift in her alignment (towards two others), this is possible due to her immaturity when considering her views on the world.

Q: I want spoilers! I want to know every possibility in which Ariena talks.
A: Go to the forum. It is your best option for these kind of things.

Q: I've found a bug / incompatibility / have a suggestion!
A: Contact me and I'll deal with it as soon as possible.

Q: I've found a grammar error!
A: Again, contact me and I'll change it. Unless this involves the words tournament, distinction and her grammar build-up of sentences. These mistakes have been done on purpose, because of her low Intelligence.

Q: I want to translate the mod!
A: Great, really great! I love to have it in multiple languages. Contact me or go to the forum and will talk. Oh, of course you will get all the credit for translating.
